Introduce The House of Adjeiwaah and the designer behind the brand:

The House of Adjeiwaah is a fashion House founded in April 2011 by the creative UK based Ghanaian designer Abena Adjei. Abena designs women’s clothing using African print material but with a strong European interpretation. The name derived from my interest in history and period dramas; one program that stood, for me, was called The House of Elliott. This show is based on two sisters who, after facing grave financial difficulties during the 1920’s, decided to create their very own fashion house which became a major success. I called my clothing line The House of Adjeiwaah because I shared the same dreams and aspirations that the characters in that program had. I also look forward to gaining that same level of success one day.

Who inspires your designs?

I am inspired by a variation of designers such as John Paul Gaultier, Zuhair Murad to Anita T.Quansah and Bummi Koko. In addition, a majority of the time, it has to do with the surroundings in which I find myself in; I could be driving, at a party, in church, and a color or a shape would just trigger off a new style. Its such an exciting process.

What is your target audience for your collection?

This is a brand that has no boundaries some say this is a risk and others may embrace the concept. The House of Adjeiwaah definition of beauty is in a variation of forms and sizes. Most importantly, it is in different colors and ages. Therefore this brand rebels against the idea of a target audience and creates trends for the masses. However, after much persuasion and pressure, I will show that that I can in fact tell a story in the fashion sense; I will be launching a luxury edition to my SS2012 line (Freedom) later in the year. This one will be targeted at a more mature audience.

I am currently based in London

Who are your favorite emerging designers and what is it that you love about them?

PROVERBZ 31 who is an amazing earring designer her talent is astounding and her pieces are stunning. She is also very humble and special as she has such great eye for detail. Her new collection is Funky, exciting and vivid I love it so much.

Fashion is about freedom of expression and therefore be confident to reveal your own style and trend not how others define you but how you personally define yourself.

What items do you consider a fashion crime?

I actually can’t think of any as I’m always drawn to different styles; I was going to say long tartan skirts. However, I recently purchased one the other day and teamed it with a black leotard and heels and it worked. I always manage to somehow turn a fashion disaster into a trend (even if others don’t like it)! I always love it all and that’s what counts.

In moments of weakness you…

Feel like turning you back on everything you’ve accomplished and allow those that doubted you to win…until the voice of reason kicks in.

What is your best attribute?

I don’t judge people and I never try to suppress my views onto others. This outlook is why my new collection is called “Freedom” because I think liberty is one of the most important concepts ever. No one should be subjected to feeling stifled or enslaved in any situation. No one should be denied the opportunity to express themselves freely; I live my life completely by those rules.

Words you live by….

“My God is able”. Whenever I feel like the burdens of life are getting to heavy to carry, and weighing me down, I look to God first and foremost. Without a doubt he never fails to deliver and helps me overcome all adversities that come my way.

Complete this sentence: I’ve learned most from….

My mother is my everything. I wouldn’t be the way I am without her. Although she is so old school, and traditional, compared to me (who loves modernity) she has this extreme self discipline I admire. For example, she never missed to make time prayer and she’s always punctual. These are the basic things in which, as human beings, we take for granted so I try (even though punctuality is not one of my finest qualities)to learn as much as possible from her.

In a nutshell, your philosophy is?

“You are a Queen”. Every woman, even if it’s just for one period in their life, should always experience feeling like a queen; at The House of Adjeiwaah we want to provide that exclusive feeling no matter what.

What’s a great fashion tip that you can share with The Fashion Records readers what would it be?

Don’t splurge on trendy items you will almost always regret it. Two years from now you’ll be looking at that hot pink leather jacket dangling in your closet and think, why did I buy that? Leave the splurging for classics only.

What’s the most important lesson that life has taught you?

Life has taught me many important lessons. Like there are no substitutions for hard work & that life is not about guarantees, it’s about taking chances. A more obvious one would be to be nice to people; it goes a long way.

What’s the one place you should NEVER go on a date?

Don’t go to the movies, you can’t chit chat. I’m such a talker; it’s how you get to know a person better.

What would you say is your signature style?

My signature style is very feminine and lady-like, I love pencil skirts and silk blouses. I would wear a dress or skirt everyday if I could. I go weak in the knees for a full-skirted dress!

This statement might as well rear it’s ugly head and translate into “It’s been epic working with you- pack your bags! You’re fired”! In the background I can hear 50 Cent defining this moment for Tyra:

Anyhow, time to give up America’s Next Top Model for good. This show is definitely a “has been”. Before you start looking for those ANTM mediocre replacements, ponder that it’s time to retire it or people will retire it for you. End things on a high note. Hate to break it to princess Tyra but not everyone watches the show because of you. While you are a fabulous business woman, some of us are watching the show because of Nigel, Miss J Alexander and Jay Manuel. And about your statement “exited what the future holds”? I see a future brewing with the word “cancellation“.

Drama Drama Drama. That is, in essence, what we know will entertain us from the ATL Housewives! Sheree Whitfield is better known for her sharp tongue, workout craze and child-support drama in the “Real Housewives of Atlanta”. We’ve been entertained by her argumentative personality and her beef with NeNe Leeks and most recently, Marlo Hampton! After four solid seasons of helping Bravo build the show into its most successful Housewives franchise, I have decided to leave. The direction the show is going in is no longer a fit for my lifestyle. I’m tired of the fighting and the cattiness.

Whitfield, 42, is a mom to three kids and her ex-husband is NFL baller Bob Whitfield. She is just fed up with all the drama! Drama is a two way street honey! Apparently she was FIRED! NeNe Leeks said she would exit the show if Sheree Whitfield didn’t leave! I’m just having a hard time believing that she chose to leave the show! With all the drama around Bob Whitfield not paying child support? It just seems more financially beneficial to stay in RHOA.

I want to be part of something that empowers and inspires women to not only be healthy, but to treat themselves with respect. I wish the rest of the women the best of luck. I’m thrilled to say I’m now a free agent and am already fielding offers.”

Pay more attention to the fit of your clothing rather than the size/number. When you clothing fits you well, you always look more put together and confident. Another tip: you don’t have to break the bank to look fashionable and stylish! Frequent your local thrift and consignment shops you will be amazed what you can find.

What’s the most important lesson that life has taught you?

To never take the presence of loved ones for granted. None of us are promised tomorrow. Love them while they are here!

What’s the one place you should NEVER go on a date?

Uh… .maybe JAIL… anywhere with the right person can be romantic and fun

I’ll wear pretty much any style and stay current with trends, but I’m also aware of what works and doesn’t work for my body type.

Beyonce and Jay-Z got away to celebrate their 4 years together and the destination was St. Barts. They cruised around in their yatch and Beyonce showcased a black one-piece bathing suit as she lounged in the sand with hubby Sean Carter. The 30 year old Beyonce has earned a very successful career and an exquisite lifestyle to go with it.

Beyonce and Jay-Z are not only known for their musical talents but, they are also well recognized in their globetrotting adventures. This power couple works hard and plays hard that’s for sure.

Jay-Z and Queen B escaped to a gorgeous Caribbean getaway before their busy schedules took precedence. We can see them here having a quiet time (no Blue Ivy Carter in sight). They relaxed with some wine, water and even sipped from a coconut.

It’s great that Beyonce is able to soak up some sun because soon she’ll be back to her busy schedule as she prepares to perform (Memorial Day weekend) three concerts at Revel Beach’s Ovation Hall in New Jersey. Later in the St. Barts vacation, the power couple took their daughter (Blue Ivy Carter) on a boat tour). Liking how Beyonce is a protective momma to her child. Cover her up! Way to go!

Later on the couple took a romantic stroll. It is said that, on April 4th, they also renewed their vows to mark the their anniversary.
