Cat Calls and Pickup Lines

Cat calls and pickup lines make me think that no woman I’ve met has told me they met their boyfriend via a pickup line.  The famous lines embodied by the black male walking the strides of a hustler (or a wannabe at times). Making a bee-line as a bypassing female walks by.  Brace yourself you will hear some footsteps shuffling behind you:

“Can I Holla atcha”

“Baby Gurl please”

“Can I talk to you for a minute”

“Hey mami looking real good”

And one that always makes me wish I was six feet tall with the muscle tone of  Schwarzenegger circa Terminator days…

“Hey I’ve got a big one for you”!

In fact this issue is serious at times and Tracey Rose made a mini documentary called: “Black Woman Walking“. She even defines it as: “Still Think This Is A Joke?”

Hey,  I am dressed in a plain t-shirt and jeans. Cat-called yet again. Other times it’s more vulgar than most. This time it was just “hey can I holla at ya”. The intersection of my emotions and the situation usually calls for a display of sassiness and a measure of defending myself.  I could have off-course chosen the route via comeback

Hustler : “Can you handle this“ (As the vulgar male grabs his nether regions*

Me: “I can handle it…with a chainsaw”

Miraculously, you just find yourself smiling today….perhaps saving that vengeance for a later.

To  all the Ladies who have been (and continue to be cat-called), we find it at times humorous and at times downright nasty. Please advise some of the men on what they should, or shouldn’t, be saying to get positive attention!

And to those men, please that cat-call never works.  Females just think you are doing that to every other girl. Thus removing the whole “special” effect.
