The Fashion Record Spotlight: Kitti Fontain
Meet Kitti Fontain. A stylist to the stars.
Introduce
KITTI FONTAIN:
Kitti Fontain is a name one of my best friends Ty came up with one early morn/late night in college.
After graduation, you went to work with stylist Lysa Cooper who is a stylist to big names like P Diddy. What was the experience like?
Working with Lysa Cooper was amazing; she taught me a lot without even being aware that I was taking notes. She was the realest boss I have ever had. The most important thing she has ever told me was “YOU EITHER GOT IT OR YOU DON’T” that statement speaks volumes on so many different levels.
What made you go out on your own?
I was confidant enough in my skill set and “know how” to branch away. I was a sponge for some time and being that I felt as though I had already spent a large portion of my life in school, it was that time.
What are the details of what a day in your job would be like?
Well, no set hours, no set days, and a lot of running around town… whether you are pulling, shopping, fitting, researching for inspiration or returning you are never done, so you have to always be ready.
What are the essential things you look for when styling anybody?
I have a kit with essential things that I would need if something goes wrong on set with wardrobe. I always need extra jewelry/accessories, safety pins and shoe stoppers.
You also have a famous brother who is a choreographer Dave Scott. Have you two collaborated with the clients he works with?
Yes Dave Scott is my brother and we have not collaborated yet. I would love for us to team up on a project or something and then the world will see that: what he means to the dancing world, I will mean to the styling world…soon.
Who inspires your designs?
I’m inspired by every, and anything, around me…from the good, the bad and the ugly in my surroundings.
What is your target audience for your collection?
I can pull anything off for anybody … my target is “THE ART” of it all.
Where can people find you?
You can find me www.moniquescott.carbonmade.com www.mscottstyle.blogspot.com www.twitter.com/KITTIFontain
Where are you based?
I am based out of Los Angeles
Who are your favorite emerging designers and what is it that you love about them?
I don’t really have a favorite. I love working with creative designers because as a stylist my job is to expose new artist.
If you had to give men and women advice on style what would you say?
Men: keep a lint roller, a nice tailored suit and some cuff links around.
Women: leggings are just an accessory…which means having a camel toe is not necessary!
What is your best attribute?
My best attribute is my resourcefulness.
Words you live by….
“TOO MANY CELEBRITIES AND NOT ENOUGH STARS, SO I CREATE STARS” AND “EMBARK, EMPOWER, EMBRACE, EMBODY”…….. Stay tuned for the Embody ‘”how to guide”.
