Fashion Records Sizzler: Amina Maina From London
Amina Maina is a musician with some soulful windpipes and a beautiful charm to her whole persona. I instantly felt a great vibe from the quirky way she described her lashes to the deep pursuit of her dreams in the music industry. Stay updated with her on her Myspace page. When this Nigerian-born sizzler hits the air-waves, we will be sure to catch the first wave out.
In a Snap-shot Meet Amina Maina:
I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember! I remember my mum playing Whitney Houston’s ‘’you give good love’’ when I was very little and singing along to it just made me so happy! I was always in dancing/singing groups at school/ gospel choirs so music has always been my passion. I love how music is so powerful. It can put you in a good mood and connects so many people. Any chance to perform will always be a “Yes” for me!
I was born in Nigeria, grew up in London. I love to draw as well. I speak French and I’ve always just felt a connection with France and the language. My favorite film is Amelie. So I guess living in the South of France would be a dream! Favorite color is purple. I love cupcakes. I love sushi!
How would you describe your music?
Quite eclectic! I’ve been inspired by so many artists and genres over the years that my writing has become a mélange of all those inspirations, but mainly pop, R&B, soul, electro and hip hop. The performance factor of music in today’s music industry is very important, so I also think of that when I’m writing my songs: I think about how I want to feel as well as how I will be engaging the audience when I’m performing!
Which musicians do you admire?
I admire those artists that have mastered their crafts to excellence! I am most inspired by musicians who give great performances! What distinguishes a true entertainer is how the audience feels at the end of the show! Artists like Stevie wonder, Prince, Beyonce, Lady Gaga…. They always leave you wanting more. But on a personal, lyrical level, Lauryn Hill is number one!
What is your best attribute?
Errrm…. Physical attribute? Well lots of people tell me my lashes are very long so I guess I’ll take that as a compliment… and if we are not talking aesthetics…I’d like to think I’m a very caring person!
Favorite lyrics from a song?
‘’When you believe in things, that you don’t understand, then you suffer, superstition ain’t the way’’
~Superstition by Stevie Wonder~
What are your future goals?
My future goal is essentially to ‘use what I’ve been given to give back.
I’m hoping my career as an entertainer will put me in a position to be able to help where necessary. Personally I would like to be involved in some development schemes in Nigeria. It is important to start on a small scale and make sure whatever aid is given, or structure that is built is sustainable. Donating money is always a start, but there are other ways that are more effective.
Music wise… My goal is to be a great and dedicated artist!
Word you live by?
Jay-z in Blue Magic ‘’I’m getting it. I aint talking about it, I’m living it’’
In other words, don’t discuss your plans or your vision. Just get on with it!
