Tell us some background info

I am a media creative in Kenya.   I deal with the commercial aspect of the broadcasting business, creating 360-degree solutions for clients in the realm of radio, tv & web advertising, backed by on-ground experiential marketing. I also carry out copywriting, production, voiceovers and event management. We are an Audio visual Production suite & creative concepts company which undertakes Jobs in the African region. We plan on dealing with some of the Country’s top brands by spearheading and developing their brand & corporate communication strategies with a global focus in mind. We also handle radio consultancy, printing, branding and creative brand equity solutions on an extensive scale.

Apart from that www.globalessence.net is an online magazine dedicated to entertain the youth in Kenya and the Diaspora.

You started your own business at a tender age of 21. Tell us the circumstances that lead you to that decision.

Well, I had always wanted to own a media house by the time I was in my 20’s. I knew from the time I was very young that I had a creative mind and therefore I thought out the idea, wrote it down and showed my parents.  With the support I got from my parents, I was able to move to the next step which was making my dream a reality.

You are a real self-starter. We heard you contacted a big government official to request assistance in funding your start-up. What was that like? How was the response?

Yes I did, after I got the support I needed from my parents and sponsors, I decided to expand on my website www.globalessence.net , unfortunately I did not have enough money to do that, but I knew I would not let that be a hindrance to me, because I never give up easily, so I asked for the number of the son of a big government official, gave him a call and told him what I was working on over the phone, and he gave me an appointment the next day. He told me that he was very impressed with my determination and decided to help. All I can say is that there are many obstacles that will come your way when you try something new or follow your dreams, but all you can do is stay focused, follow your dreams, knock all the doors you can and never give up.

Were there any hardships you faced starting your venture/business?

Yes luck of funds.  But, as I said if you are focused and never give up, it will just be a passing glance that you will look back at and thank God you overcame it.

Your media business is so unique in the way that you have created jobs and opportunities for other people. What (or who) helps you run Global Essence?
Yes, I create opportunities because I want to see people succeed too. I am the CEO and founder Globalessence Ltd. But I have people who manage the company when I’m not around, especially now that we have expanded. I have employed people to manage therefore; I don’t need to be in the office unless there is something very urgent that I need to attend to.

What is your best attribute?
Humor…I love to laugh…. and my smile :) it just seems to make people happy, also the ability to rise after a fall, good listener & I don’t give up easily.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Never, never, never give up.  Winston Churchill given to me by Google!

Excluding yours, what company or brand do you admire the most?

I guess Virgin Atlantic Airways, I just love the way Richard Branson started out, do you know he started off with a magazine like me? And The Trump Organization

You are doing so well in Kenya so any future plans of expanding abroad?

Yes we will soon be launching something which I can’t disclose right now, but watch this space this year, because what we are launching is nothing anyone will be expecting…
